BILL WINDSOR - MIDSHIPMAN
ATLANTIS STORY MAP & OPERATION HOMEPAGE
THE TARGET - Terramentals aim to steal a British Royal Navy submarine, to destroy oil wells in the North Sea, by way of drawing attention to the manifold oil discharges, and their unlawful detention, as legitimate conservation protestors.
William Fennick Windsor is a submariner, Midshipman, aboard the Astute class nuclear submarine HMS Neptune. Coincidentally, he is from the Welsh village of Middfai, where the Prince of Wales, who became King Charles, has property.
'Bill' attended Kings College, London University, studying hydrodynamics and computer modelling of ship hulls and underwater vessels. He had a notion that submarines and aircraft carriers could be improved in design. This was his thesis for a degree as a Naval Architect.
Bill joined the Royal Navy as a submariner to get some hands on experience. Soon he discovered how inefficiently the Royal Navy was, coming up with a scenario where aircraft carriers and submarines could be replaced entirely. Naturally, his concept did not make him popular with his shipmates, not the Admiralty, as an institution stuck in the dark ages when it came to reducing the carbon footprint of the armed forces.
'Windsor' noted a number of short cuts in servicing, that worried him. But when his concerns were reported to Lieutenant Engelheart, thence to Commander Blakestone, the issue seemed to die a death. Nevertheless, the young midshipman kept a watching brief. Determined to do his duty, even if it made him unpopular is higher circles.
He had a concept where nuclear vessels could be replaced by hydrogen and solar powered craft, as unmanned drones. The object being to reduce the radioactive waste and ocean pollution, while also boosting the effectiveness of British peacekeeping duties. When he mentioned this to the Admiralty, the idea fell of deaf ears. Replies like:
"Where will we wear our white uniforms mister?" and
"What kind of visible deterrence is that?" This was his reward for thinking outside the box.
After his crew are reported adrift by John Storm, Bill becomes fascinated with the Elizabeth Swann, as it seems to bear out his hypothesis. John takes Bill, Captain Blakestone and Lieutenant Engelheart onboard the Swann, asking for their help in tracking the Terramentals. They prove to be most useful, when HMS Neptune is re-captured, and towed into Lisbon Harbour. All three submariners are astounded to learn there was a kill order out on their submarine, coming from within the Royal Navy.
OPERATION NEPTUNE CAST:
In the John Storm series of ocean awareness adventures, extreme activists use their Predator HK to steal an Astute class submarine, belonging to the British Royal Navy. The anti global warming terrorists plan to steal US and Soviet submarines, as part of their agenda to prove the futility of all out thermonuclear annihilation. Using their own illegal, weapons against the perpetrators of what they see as crimes against humanity.
In this fictional John Storm adventure, the Astute submarine commandeered, develops radiation leaks, making the vessel dangerous to life in the ocean, and eventually, those submariners operating the vessel, adding to the list of complaints of the Terramentalists.
